More information on Church of England

Baptisms (Christenings) can be found here

The Ascension has an open policy with regard to baptisms (often commonly known as christenings) and it is possible to be baptised at any age.  If you live in the parish, or have contacts with The Ascension in some other way, we would be happy to discuss baptisms with you.  Please contact us and a member of our baptism team will make an arrangement to visit you and make the arrangements.

Baptism is a free gift of God for those who want to embark on the journey of faith.  In baptism our lives are bound with Christ's that we might live in Him and He in us.  Baptism is the beginning of that life-long journey.  It is important, therefore, that in considering baptism either for yourself or for those in your care, that you are prepared to make that journey of faith and travel along with all of us who have already been baptised, namely the Church.

If a child is being baptised, you will neeed to have a minimum of three godparents, two godparents of the same sex as the child, and one of the opposite sex.  You may though have as many godparents as you would like.  A godparent MUST be baptised in order to fulfil this important role.

There is no charge for baptisms.  However, if you would like to make a donation to God's work at the church, you will have an opportunity to do so after the service.
